John “Johnny Boy” Petrone has been immersed in the restaurant business since he was a teenager growing up in New Jersey. After years of hard work and on-the-job experience, he moved to the beautiful state of Vermont and opened his first restaurant in 1972. Shortly after, he met his lovely wife Luanne. She was a regular in his restaurant, and one day while dining there with her mother, she saw John walk by. Luanne whispered to her mother, “I’m going to marry that man one day”. Six months later they were indeed married, and a year later they welcomed a daughter, Daria. Over the years, this husband and wife team have owned and operated several restaurants in the Rutland area, including local favorites The Back Home Café and Petrone’s.

Their dream of opening a pancake house finally became a reality on January 1, 2003 with the opening of Johnny Boy’s Pancake House in Killington. They designed it to be a place where both locals and out-of-town visitors would come to have a hearty meal in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. In the attractive space, you’ll find bits of character that patrons find entertaining. This includes photos of the Red Sox and the Yankees (which have initiated many a debate at the breakfast counter) as well as Rat Pack and mobster paraphernalia that have long been a source of entertainment and amusement for Johnny Boy.

The much-anticipated Rutland location of Johnny Boy’s Pancake House came to fruition when its doors opened on July 19, 2010. The Rutland location has the same feel as its Killington counterpart, and also offers an extensive lunch menu, which is exclusive to this location. Many patrons have commented that having a meal at Johnny Boy’s in Rutland feels more like having a meal at someone’s home, thanks to the cozy atmosphere that Luanne has created (inside a building that was once a beverage redemption center!).

John and Luanne Petrone invite you to stop in and take some time for a good meal with your friends and family… whether you’re headed to work, on your way to hit the slopes, or you’re just plain hungry.
